CHICAGO - (December 1, 1996) - Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN), Oakdale, Minn., and Cemax-Icon, Inc., Fremont, Cal., have joined forces in Europe to provide integrated image management systems (IMS) solutions to medical imaging customers. Under the alliance, Imation will handle the sales, installation and integration of both companies' hardware and software products in IMS areas including network printing, radiological reading and clinical review, and digital archiving. Imation's sales force will also provide customer training and post installation support for the systems. Cemax-Icon is a technology leader in medical image management systems software, including Picture Archiving Communications Systems (PACS) and teleradiology. Imation brings its world-leading 3M™ DryView™ Laser Imaging Technology by Imation™, plus its imaging network and digital storage products and technologies, to the partnership. "This alliance brings together the best technical components and expertise of each company so together we can provide comprehensive IMS technology solutions to European customers," said Mark Hunter, Imation IMS business development manager. "Imation has earned a strong reputation for its products and services with radiology departments in Europe," said Oran Muduroglu, Cemax-Icon's vice president of sales and marketing. "Through this agreement, Cemax-Icon can offer these customers our leading network software and workflow products backed by Imation service support." More Slagelse Arrangements Envisioned Both companies envision the agreement will result in successfully integrated image management systems such as the one at Slagelse Central Hospital in West Zealand County, Denmark. Imation and Cemax-Icon are working together there to set up a totally digital radiology department in new buildings that features ATM networking, which allows for extremely rapid transmission of medical images. The Slagelse Central Hospital incorporates multiple Cemax-Icon AutoRad™ workstations for soft-copy reading, and its Archive Manager™ 2.0 digital archiving solution, which provides users with centralized management of data distributed throughout the hospital network. The combined use of these solutions promotes Cemax-Icon's Automated Workflow Engine concept, resulting in increased workflow management efficiency. Imation has incorporated DryView™ 8700 Laser Imagers for remote location hard-copy printing, plus storage management software, into the facility. Imation has been working on the project for three years while Cemax-Icon has been involved since 1995. Cemax-Icon, Inc. is a privately held medical image information systems company headquartered in Fremont, Cal. The company designs and manufactures medical image management solutions, as well as networking and image processing software.
